A New Phase In Exports To The EU: Turkey Escapes Additional Tariffs
A New Era of Duty-Free Exports to the EU with the CERTILOOP Certificate
With its European-accredited certification, CERTILOOP relieves Turkish exporters from plastic taxes. A new era in recycling has begun.
Taking a historic step to reduce foreign dependency in the recycling sector, Türkiye has launched a new era that will enhance exporters’ competitiveness in the European Union market. CERTILOOP Green Transformation Certification Services Inc. has introduced Türkiye’s first and only domestic recycling certification program. Operating under TÜRKAK and European Accreditation systems, CERTILOOP holds the distinction of being one of only two programs worldwide with such recognition.
CERTILOOP General Manager Yağmur Eroğlu stated that companies holding the certificate will be able to export their products safely to Europe and across the globe without paying any additional taxes, saying: “This certificate will serve both as an EU-approved indicator of environmental responsibility and as the key to cost advantages.”
Under European Union regulations, exporting companies are required to certify the amount of recycled plastic in their products through independent and accredited bodies. In this context, Türkiye has taken a highly significant step by developing its own certification system. Introduced in 2023 with the participation of the Brussels-based President of the EU Plastics Producers Association, the program was shortly thereafter accredited by the European Accreditation Body and TÜRKAK. As a result, CERTILOOP has become one of only two programs actively recognized across Europe in the fields of recycled content, recyclability, and recycling processes.
Plastic taxes implemented in countries such as Spain and the United Kingdom create substantial additional costs for exporters when certification is not provided. For example, companies exporting to Spain without a recycling certificate recognized by ENAC are unable to carry out exports. Firms holding the CERTILOOP certificate—accredited in Europe and also recognized by ENAC—are exempt from these taxes, saving thousands of euros in additional costs and gaining a competitive edge in global markets.
Turkish industrialists can now obtain internationally valid certifications from within Türkiye more quickly and cost-effectively, without relying on foreign testing and certification processes. In addition to being the only non-European program recognized by Brussels-based PolyCert Europe, CERTILOOP not only enables manufacturers to demonstrate their environmental responsibility through EU-accredited certificates, but also provides a credible declaration of environmental commitment to consumers and brands.
THE DOOR OPENS TO EXPORTS WITHOUT ADDITIONAL TAXES
Reiterating that certified companies can export their products worldwide—especially to Europe—without paying any additional taxes, CERTILOOP General Manager Yağmur Eroğlu said:
“This certificate will be both an EU-approved indicator of environmental responsibility and the key to cost advantages. In this way, Türkiye is turning its goal into reality: protecting the environment while providing exporters with a strong competitive advantage in global markets through a domestically developed certification model in green transformation and sustainability.”
